Did you know that our Sydney Tower Dining School Tours have been in place for more than 25 years now?
Targeting current students studying Food Technology, Business Studies and Hospitality and Tourism, these tours provide students with unique insight into the operations, logistics and requirements for the businesses.
Recently, we were excited to welcome the Year 10 and Year 11 Food Technology and Business Studies students from Hills Adventist College, along with their teachers Ms Lolohea and Ms Baxter, for a school tour across our venues at Sydney Tower Dining.
“I’ve been organising these school tours for the last three years and we do them so that students can get the exposure to the inside of an actual business. Allowing them to clearly see the Business Studies Operations syllabus topic firsthand, the different types of experiences between upstairs in the restaurant and downstairs in the production kitchens,” says Ms Lolohea, Head of H.S.I.E Department at Hills Adventist College.
“The goal is to make the learning material more real as opposed to just reading information from a text book.”

We kick started the session with a 1.5 hour inspection and educational tour of our production kitchen and internal facilities. Here, students were able to get a firsthand look into the operations of the kitchens, including logistics of food delivery and production, occupational health and safety, the roles and responsibilities of a chef, the process of menu planning and more.
“The goal is for our students to see what an industrial commercial kitchen looks like and how it operates. That’s something we don’t normally have access to and so it’s great for them to get that kind of exposure on these tours,” said Ms Baxter, Food Technology Teacher at Hills Adventist College.
This was followed by a tour of our fine dining restaurant, 360 Bar and Dining, where students got to learn more about the tower and other aspects of the business such as the reservations process, the role of marketing, technology, computer systems and equipment operation.
The last stop of the tour was Sydney Tower Buffet where students were able to enjoy a one hour lunch (included as part of the tour package).
With over 60+ freshly prepared dishes on offer, suffice to say, everyone was very excited…
Our wonderful Head Chef, Mohamed, also popped out for a chat with all the students and answered some questions, including fun facts like how we sell over 800 profiteroles a day at the buffet!
“We will always go back for a debrief session at school after these tours so that students can process what they’ve learnt and hopefully use their experience here as a real life case study for their HSC exams,” said Ms Lolohea.
On the whole, it was a fun-filled day for everyone involved and we can’t wait to welcome Hills Adventist College back again for another school tour.
